We have a collection of plastic ninjas that hang out on a frame that is around the thermostat, they are only part of our collection. the rest are scattered around the house hidden in plain sight and move quite often. I think they are on secret missions… #NYDexpress
Facebook and other social has been boiled down into sharing memes, news and fake news, etc… for a lot of people. I want something more!
When I started fb and other social media (livejournal, deviantart and others) it was a platform to express yourself and keep in touch with people you don’t see often or you liked the content they offer. I want to encourage this by encouraging this challenge.
On NYD via FB or the social media of your choosing (or all that you use) express yourself to your friends and followers something created distinctly yourself:
· Post a photo of your surroundings, something interesting or unique in your home etc.
· Some poetry, writing or some other personal story that people don’t know about you
· Some art or craft work you are proud of
· Food or recipe that you made (not found on pintrist)
· Self portrait
· Something funny or strange about yourself
· A mini movie of your making
· The list goes on!
Lots of you have off so no excusses!

Apparently nothing is sacred in the world today, I was doing a google search for image references for my coaster painting series and looked up “whale tail”. To my surprise there came up a lot of girls with their thong panties sticking out of there jeans looking like a whales tail just before it sinks back into the depths of the ocean. The pictures where almost all candid, which disturbs me but that is a different discussion.
I am a little scared to google “raven’s beak”, all kidding aside here is the painting that came out of that search:
Whales Tail in Blue
Oil on found coaster
3.5” x 3.5” 88cm x 88cm aprox.
For sale – 50$ usa + shipping now on etsy
Buy this and get a chuckle every time!
Now that I am thinking about it, I think it would be funny to do a diptych of actual whale tail and girl while tail side by side. Artsy though nothing crude 🙂

Last of it?
I am in no state to figure it out at the moment, I think I am a bit delusional at the moment.
Everything seems a bit surreal but only slightly, like I am in a shifted universe. Waiting for reality to collapse into one possibility or another…
Since my last post (which I stated that I would be posting more and have started a half dozen post since) I have spent 40 days and night in Tennessee for work, 4 trips @ 10 days and mostly 12+ hour days…
Home time is 4 days at a time, I have been productive for the most part, 2 paintings finished, one sold, several started, some R&R, etc…
After the first trip I tried to be productive as well on the road, not easy but I did finish up a sketchbook (de-constructing the box), and filled out 15 or so pages in my tiny sketchbook. I even sold a drawing to a nice couple from west TN…
Many goals for home time, still waiting to hear if one more trip may happen, pretty sure not but that is what I thought last time.
Coming up, talks about the two paintings that are done, de-constructing the box sketchbook, goals and the like!
Oh, I will be showing my art in the St. Paul Art Crawl, more details to come! (and if I am not in TN or elsewhere)
The gods have had some cruel plans for me and goals I have set forth. They through two last minute work trip at me consisting of 9 days on 12 hours a day with 5 days home and repeat the fun and joy again. I got some drawing done in the hotel bar and only have (1) one page left until that book is done!
It was interesting, while I was drawing an older couple was watching me intently and finally asked what I was drawing and what kind of art I do. Tossed them the sketchbook and they started flipping through it, commenting and asking questions. I spent some time talking to them, especially her, she is an inspiring artist, wanting to create after she retires and was intent on asking about process and the like. He found a drawing that really talk to him, asked if he could buy it! I don’t often sell right out of the sketchbook but this drawing had no sentimental value so I said sure.
While I was between trips I did get some paintings worked on, one almost done and two started. I thing they will need their own post however.
Back to painting tomorrow!
The days of late have been dark, gray and cold. The urge of putting paint to canvas has been strong but the world has thwarted the attempt more than a few times. Some self-imposed but mostly the world has been crapping in the bed. What a mess!
In spite of the difficulties, I have almost finished one of the new painting I started a little bit ago and finished a small “coaster” painting that was started years ago, not to mention I have a 4 coasters ready to go, more on these works soon. I have also worked a lot in my “de-constructing the box” sketchbook with the goal of finishing it out soon. There has been a bit of doodling happening on any piece of paper that seems to need marks (especially during meetings). So the energy is being contained with little pressure releases.
A self-imposed commitment has been reached to flex the right brain and work with in the creative side. This will be hard since my day job is mostly left brain work.
How to achieve?
• Draw, draw, draw
• Non-linear brain storming
• Push boundaries
• Ask questions (self and others)
• Work a lot (personal)
• Write about it
I have made myself a lot of promises and goals over the year. Focus and follow through is the key to my success here.

Halleluiah, the revival has begun! Pull up a seat to the second coming as paint to brush to canvas will cleanse the soul. AMEN, HALLELUIAH. A dynamic truth to those who believe will be lifted up, amen and halleluiah!
This is the time to spread out, have a revival, and get back to basics of the worship of art and philosophy and the anxiety of the physiological state…
Formal; emerging; outsider…
New work is playing in mind and canvas, take a peek to informally named Been Pushed: too far
Under-color: I hate working from a white canvas, this was going to be a different painting original
Next steps will be corrections of under painting, glazing and more corrections and glazing. May be a part of a series.
For redemption, open your hearts and join the revival…
